Ixion Cavalcade
A run dedicated to the late road tester Canon Basil Davies.
The Ixion Cavalcade is a motorcycle run based at Bexhill-on-Sea dedicated to the memory of the well known motorcycling correspondent, pundit, race reporter, broadcaster and one time road tester Canon Basil Davies BA (1879 – 1961).
Davies was well known for his modish pen-name… Ixion. Ixion was a rider at heart, however an involvement in journalism originated from a need to finance his hobby and sport; his gradual acceptance as a pundit was revealed in his contribution and weekly columns in The Motor Cycle, one of the foremost motorcycling periodicals dating back to 1903, in which he provided a window into the movement… and he did this very well, with a detailed knowledge of the industry gained through relationships with those at a grass-root level and characters who had been involved in the sport from the outset.
Ixion continued writing for over six decades until 1961 and also published books on motorcycling that are now classics – most notably, Motor Cycle Reminiscences containing “The Impressions of Twenty Years and 200,000 Miles on the Road”.
This event is run by the Sunbeam Motorcycle Club and is open to all classes and makes of pre 1940 machines.
