The SMCC Fens Tiger Run
Leaving at 10:30, the morning section of the route is about 35 miles long and leads to Thetford on mostly scenic minor roads. The route will see the riders travel through Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk.
The lunch break at Thetford is at the The Charles Burrell Museum which is being specially opened for the SMCC by the volunteers that run it. While it is free to visit the museum, it is funded entirely by donations. The museum is housed in the grade 2 listed, former paint shop of Charles Burrell & Sons, builders of steam traction engines, agricultural machinery, steam lorries and steam tram engines. The Charles Burrell Museum owns and maintains three working Burrell engines, usually housed within the Museum. The museum café will be able to supply lunches, snacks and drinks. Because the museum is being specially opened for us, lunches must be pre-ordered on the event entry form. Note that their maximum capacity is 50, so early booking is recommended to guarantee being able to get lunch service here.
After looking around the museum, at 2:30 pm the return leg of the event will depart. Again staying mostly on minor roads the route passes through unspoilt parts of Thetford forest and out into the wide open, flat areas of the Fens. The return journey is approximately 35 miles in length.
There is another motorcycling event happening on the Friday and Saturday before the Fen Tigers run which entrants may be interested in. Please visitĀ https://thetimingchest.com/still-kicking-a-new-british-celebration-of-veteran-vintage-motorcycles/Ā to learn of more details. The event offers camping, so would be a good overnight camping spot if planning on entering the Fen Tigers on the Sunday.
