The SMCC Romney Marsh Run

September 14, 2025
Details from the SMCC website:
A run for veteran (pre 1915) and flat-tank machines built prior to 1931 with a choice of a shorter 30 mile or longer 50 mile route. Much of the mileage is on the quiet roads of Romney Marsh with no steep gradients. Starting and finishing at an exciting new venue for 2020, the Romney Marsh Wartime Collection, Ivychurch Road, Brenzett, Kent TN29 0EE, where there is much to see should you choose to stay on after the event and a large grass paddock for trailer and van parking is available to all entrants for the duration of the event.

The museum offers teas, coffees and light bites from its new canteen before and after the run. Pre-ordered ploughman’s type lunches will also be available. For further details contact the secretary of the meeting.

Riders enjoying the long route will literally be at sea for a mile or two as it follows lanes meandering across re-claimed land which was under the sea over 7 centuries ago. En route we will pass the cottage next to the Star Inn at St Mary in the Marsh, home for a short while to the playwright, actor, composer, director, raconteur and wit Noël Coward (1899-1973). And the children’s author Edith Nesbit (1858-1924) who’s work includes the Railway Children is buried opposite in the churchyard of St Mary in the Marsh.

For further details head over to the SMCC website and contact the secretary of the meeting.
